Roping steers bred to last

We first started our roping cattle herd in 1990 and began with 30 head of registered Corriente cows. We have since systematically bred them to be an eighth long horn for the purpose of getting flat horns on both steers and heifers and to increase body size, so they have a much better resale value when we or our customers have finished roping them. We also now have over 35 years of culling for roping durability. We don't put a heifer into our breeding herd unless she has lasted for over a year in our roping string. We feed them very well but rope them 4 to 6 runs a day 5 and 6 days a week. Only the best and most honest last for the full 14 months. Those that do become our replacement heifers. The bulls also have to last from early spring until late fall or they become steers. In the beginning there were only a small percentage that made the cut. Now after nearly 4 decades of this model of herd management, we only have a few which don't make the cut. This has made it so we only keep the best of the best. It has also made it possible for us to sell to you our customers knowing our cattle will hold up against any cattle out there if they are cared for. With few exceptions our roping steers are all solid Blacks, browns or reds.

We produce approximately 300 head per year depending on rainfall and pasture growth.

We start taking orders for roping steers and heifers and committing pricing on January 1st of each year and usually have most of them committed to by the end of February.

We also adjust our herd numbers each fall depending on projected winter pasture and the number of replacement heifers we kept that year. Therefore we have cows for sale each fall in October or November.

Everyone is always welcome at the ranch to come check out our cattle herd and enjoy our facilities.
